My Challenge, as a Pastor, to Change Direction and Emphasis of My Local Church Family – 2002

This is the sermon that I gave to challenge the church families to change our direction and emphasis at Touchet Baptist Church, June, 2002. It was part of my 'Garden Series' and as far as I can tell, this is the oldest sermon I have available. I had been pastor for 6 years and was just starting to consider the seriousness of looking towards Paul with rightly dividing Paul's books, not just rightly dividing pick-n-choose by verse.

Yes, the sermon is a "little" long... but that was the way in those days - and people stayed! I recommend if you want to get the sermon as put forth, you should sit through it all in one sitting, as the people in Touchet did. The unedited video will be online soon... (I hope).

The sermon begins with emphasis being put on the church family as a whole - how the community should see us as a local church. We end the sermon by emphasizing the importance of our personal walk as that is what people see. It was more important for our testimony to be one that is seen, not just heard!

This sermon began a 7 year 'pastoral experience' that was the most rewarding yet challenging and difficult time of my life. At first, it was great as we learned the joy of "Paul Only;" however, the personal and family battles concerning the outward 'walk' in everyone's lives finally wore us all down. As I have said for years, the 'truth of a rightly divided KJB following Paul Only' is what took us down. Not the devil - not a person - not the flesh - TRUTH!

Remember, this was also presented before our years of serious Paul Only application We were still a Baptist church, however we eventually dropped the 'Baptist' title. We still did an occasional invitation, however we stopped them soon after this sermon. We hadn't gone through Hebrews to Jude as Tribulation books or Acts 1-8 only as Great Commission, not to us today; now it is obvious!

While we still believed the Baptist PSR/Gipp 'strong-arm' was the only way to preach, Paul changed us soon after.

In this case in 2002, this sermon was appropriately given and properly timed to get us all started looking on the outside walk, getting us off our brain collection of great doctrine! It was good that I didn't know what was going to happen in the next 7 years after this sermon!

Dear Web-Family: Are you willing to accept the challenge given in this sermon? I hope you are; and hopefully in one session - no potty or sandwich / coffee breaks - no stretches - no interruptions and I don't recommend you listen as you sit back in your recliner or bed. It is even more timely and necessary today. Paul's doctrine is fantastic, but his 'manner of life' is written to us directly and will be what our judgment seat of Christ will be based on. Now is as good as time as any to put this sermon on!

Where is Our Shame Today?
Part I We have no shame anymore these days. Even in 'accidental' or 'forced' situations, are we ever 'shamed' when something happens? The leaven of TV, immodesty, language, etc. has taken us all down the dirty alley so far that nothing really shames us anymore.

Is there anything we can learn about shame in the Old Testament, Gospels, Paul's Gospel, the Tribulation and Millenium? What applies to us and what is 'nature' in any dispensation, etc. It is an interesting study... but more than that, it reminds us that even though 'all things are lawful,' there is still a shame we should be aware of that affects our testimony and judgment seat of Christ. It is worth considering!

Jude 11 Leaving out the 'distracting' references, here is the list of things that these 'guys' will be doing during the fearful Tribulation. However, note that you can already see that many of these things are being done in the pulpits today. Today, while the soft 'gospels' pastors and reverends are preaching the 'love' of God messages, the 'serious' bible preachers are preaching a tribulation message of fearing God. None of them are preaching Paul's 'goodness of God' message.

Part IV - Perishing in the gainsaying of Core
Jude 11 'Gainsaying' is denying / contradicting / opposing. When Korah gainsayed against Moses, God had him and his followers swallowed up by the earth for disobeying God's words - not just Moses.

Aren't we thankful that we don't have to worry about that in this dispensation of grace! But they will have to worry about it in the Tribulation.

The point of this series is for us to recognize these things as the Tribulation draws nearer than folks want to admit.

Jude 11 We look at the way of Balaam and the doctrine of Balaam as well as his error. We see from this study that most pastors in the pulpits today are Balaam imitations. Unfortunately, we can be just as guilty ourselves. But as time takes us closer and closer to the Tribulation, we see the increase of Cainites, Balaamites and Coreites in the pulpits today.

Jude 11 As we continue to read the warnings that will be spoken during the Tribulation, we look at the 'Way of Cain' which makes us think, "Are we part of the falling away because we tend to lean towards the Way of Cain?" It is true that we don't have to worry about the consequences of these warnings, but our works will most certainly burn if they have any hint of the 'Way of Cain.'

Part II

John 21:15 to Acts 2:47 This evening we look specifically at the "Jewishness" of the Great Commission as Peter is first told to 'feed my sheep.'

As we look in detail at Peter's first two 'speeches' to the Jews, we learn about:

What speaking in tongues really was
What teachings of Jesus were to be taught during that 'Great Commission,' as it is called today, compared to Paul's teachings
What the first 'speaking in tongues' has to to with Joel 2:28 and the Tribulation
The design and purpose of the local church and how today's church is NOT supposed to follow Peter - but they do today because the local church has developed Alzheimers. Today's pastors are going back to the baby days of the local church as they try to be have favour with all the people - totally opposite of what Paul teaches to the church today!

Bonus - We see the 'baloneyness' of the greek fools gold nugget about agape and phileo love in John 21.

A "more sure word of prophecy" in II Peter 1:15-21 is not what is commonly preached today using it as referring to the King James Bible.
The word sheep is referring to the Jews in the Gospels AND in the Tribulation - not to the Gentiles.

Wednesday Evening Round Eight Goes to Paul Only! Titus 1:9-16 Back to our gainsayer... He says that because there are many contradictions when you compare Paul to the rest of the Bible. No, Mr. Gainsayer - it actually means just the opposite. Because there are so many contradictions with Paul and the rest of the Bible, that proves that you can not mix them up into one all around gospel for personal application. Going with Paul "Only" eliminates all those contradictions!

Do we say God's way is now 'understandable' when He says it isn't? Psalm 20:24
You say that Habakkuk proves that OT was not a salvation by works, but by faith! Habakkuk 2:4... It Does? Compare it to Romans 3:28 - do you see the difference? You still don't understand the faith of Jesus Christ and our faith, do you?
You tell me that OT people died having faith, so you wonder how I can say it is by works? I'll tell you - listen closely!
You are wondering where I get the teaching that the books from Hebrews to Jude are Tribulation. You also wonder that if the Jews would have accepted Christ from Peter, why do I say the Tribulation was right around the corner for them at that time?
"Hey, Mr. Gainsayer? If you read and try to apply Leviticus 26:12, then why do you ignore the rest of that chapter?" That chapter explains, in detail, the consequences of not following God during the OT. Do we have to worry about those same consequences today? Why or why not?

PS - During the gainsayers series, there will be no notes other than what is on this page. I doubt that any gainsayers would listen to the audio so they would only scan the notes and disagree. This way, if they really want to hear my thoughts and answers, etc. they will have to listen to the actual preaching / teaching and hear all that needs to be said.

Wednesday Evening Round Five Goes to Paul Only! Titus 1:9-16 Here are the questions we deal with today. Hear the gainsayers empty answers compared to Paul's comments on the following questions:

Is Acts 8:37 a salvation verse text today?
We are dead to sin, according to Romans 6:11 - so explain that according to the teachings of the Gospels.
If we are 'born of God' as you say, then according to I John 3:9, if you sin, are you no longer 'born of God?'
How do you overcome the world by believing that Jesus is the Son of God, according to I John 5:5?
Do you become partakers of the Mormons, JW's, etc. if you let them into your home and wish them God's speed, according to II John 10-11. By the way, his answer was 'guess so.' Hear the real answer here!
Does Paul preach that God spue' the church out of his mouth today?
Why do men in the tribulation try to wrest what Paul says; or if you say those are books to us today, then why do folks wrest what Paul teaches when he says his ways are to be taught in every church?
Does a Christian have to worry about the law today?
Explain what i means to not have sin imputed when there is no law to a believer.. and all that comes with that doctrine, compare that to the Gospels about sin.
Do we have to 'endure to the end' to maintain our own personal salvation?

I am still having major issues with sound quality; the video is so awful, I just will leave it off for now.

Sunday Evening Round One Goes to Paul Only! Titus 1:9-16 We look at his three major 'obstacle' points to his believing "Paul Only."

He says, "Based on I John 2:18 & II Peter 3:2-4, Hebrews to Jude can't be Tribulation books."
Jewish and Gentiles are one so why not all follow the Jewish teachings instead of 'Gentile only?'
He says 'All scripture is profitable for application.'

We also take a quick look at his closing comments:

He says 'Pilate never physically whipped Jesus.'
He says the Holy Spirit taught Paul, not Jesus Christ - based on John 14 & 16, etc.
He asked, "Why did Paul preach to the Jews in Acts?"
He asked, "What does the killing of Stephen have to do with Christ going on to the Gentiles?"

However, typical of a gainsayer, their mind is corrupted and destitute of the truth. I doubt he will even understand the answers - and I KNOW this will not convince him. He will just have more questions and comments. Paul does tell us to avoid these situations as they are a waste of time. However, for our sake of learning - AND - for his sake, I will give him all these chances to see all his doubts and questions answered by Paul ONLY.
